Born in 1988 in Lichtenburg, Dorothea Nortje’s journey to the art world starts in the small town of Bronkhorstspruit where she spent her childhood days. Nortje quickly showed great promise as a budding artist while studying art in high school. Since then, she obtained a diploma in Fine Arts at the Tshwane University of Technology in 2010. Her palpable passion for nature combined with a requited spiritual element earned her an apprenticeship with well-known South African artist, Anton Smit. Here, Dorothea perfected her adroitness in painting and sculpture. Working from her home studio in addition to part-time studio work with renowned artist, Lionel Smit, Dorothea Nortje is speedily establishing herself as an upcoming artist.
